NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt swim coaches Jeremy Organ and Caitlin Geary are glad to announce seven student-athletes have signed to the Commodores 2017 class. Lauren Bergmann, Kaley Buchanan, Brooke Ellis, Lara Hernandez-Tome, Lindsey Gordon, Hannah Hunt, and Reagan Roob have all signed their National Letters of Intent to attend Vanderbilt this upcoming fall.
“Very excited to bring in this group of outstanding young ladies,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “All of them are very well balanced student athletes and will contribute to all aspects of our program.”
Lauren Bergmann is a backstroke/butterfly swimmer from Fitchburg, Wisc. She swims for Badger Aquatic Club and attends Madison Edgewood High School. She is ranked 16th in the state of Wisconsin and was a two-time finalist at the 2016 Wisconsin Girls Championships. She placed second in 100-yard backstroke (56.72) and finished third in 100-yard butterfly (56.69).
Kaley Buchanan hails from Hershey, Penn. and is a butterfly/freestyle swimmer. Buchanan swims for Hershey Aquatic Club and attends Hershey High School. She is ranked 17th in the state of Pennsylvania and a two-time finalist at the 2016 Pennsylvania AAA State Championship in the 100-yard butterfly (55.70) and 100-yard freestyle (51.50). She also qualified for the last season’s Speedo Winter Junior Nationals in the 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.
Brooke Ellis is one of the two newest Commodores to hail from the Sunshine state. Ellis is a butterfly/IM swimmer from Coral Gables, Fla. She attends Gulliver Prep School and swims for the Gulliver Swim Club. Ellis is ranked 28th in the state of Florida and she qualified for the 2016 Speedo Championship Series (Orlando) in the 200-meter butterfly (2:18.73). She also is a two-time finalist at the 2015 Florida 2A State Championship at the 200-yard IM (2:06.68) and 100-yard butterfly (57.32).
Lara Hernandez-Tome is the other incoming Commodore from Florida. She is from Sarasota, Fla. and is ranked 15th in the Sunshine State. Hernandez-Tome swims for the Sarasota YMCA Sharks and attends Riverview High School. She was named a 2016 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and was a finalist at the 2016 Florida Senior Championships in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:20.53). Hernandez-Tome also qualified for the 2016 Speedo Summer Championship Series (Orlando) and won the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 17:06.69.
Lindsey Gordon is a breaststroke/IM swimmer from Ridgefield, Conn. She is ranked 16th in the state, swims for Ridgefield Aquatic Club and attends Ridgefield High School. Gordon was named a 2016 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and was a two-time finalist at the 2015 Connecticut Girls Open State Championships. She swam in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.01) and the 200-yard IM (2:07.89).
Hannah Hunt is the younger sister of current Commodore swimmer Madeline Hunt. Hannah is a breaststroker from Naperville, Ill. and is the 11th-ranked swimmer in the state. She swims for Fox Valley Swim Team and attends Waubonsie Valley High School. Hunt recently placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2016 Illinois State Championship (1:02.97). She qualified for the 2016 Speedo Championship Series at Brown Deer in the 200-meter breaststroke where she finished fourth with a time of 2:37.13.
Reagan Roob is a freestyle/IM swimmer from Indianapolis, Ind. Roob is ranked 24th in the state, swims for Carmel Swim Club along with Washington Township Swim Club, and attends North Central High School. Roob was a finalist in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2016 Indiana State Championships (24.07). She also placed first in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2016 NCSA Summer Swimming Championships (27.30).
