NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After breaking three school records last season and setting numerous personal best times, the Commodores are excited to get back in the pool for another season. The 2017-18 schedule features two home meets at Centennial Sportsplex.
“Really looking forward to a great season,” said head coach Jeremy Organ entering his 12th season at Vanderbilt. “The schedule has a good mix of conference opponents and familiar teams which should prepare the girls well for SECs at the end of the season.”
Vanderbilt will face a lot of the competition from its own conference this season to prepare the team for SECs. The Dores will face Kentucky on the road and then race against Arkansas at home in November and then again in January as part of a tri-meet with Houston.
The Commodores open the season with the Wildcats in Lexington on Oct. 4. The two teams last faced in January of 2015 when the Wildcats traveled to West End with Kentucky winning 170-92.
The next week, the Dores will head down to Jacksonville to face North Florida on Oct. 12. The two teams will meet for the first time since January of 2016.
After a few weeks off, the Dores will open up their home swim schedule when the Razorbacks come to town on Nov. 4. Arkansas came to West End last year as part of a tri-meet with Houston.
Next up, the Dores head to Texas Nov. 16-18 to take part in the Houston Fall Invite for the second straight year. They finished ninth last season.
Just after Thanksgiving, the Dores will host their second and final home meet against Marshall. It will be Senior Day for the eight seniors on the squad.
Then during Winter Break, VU will head down to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell in a dual meet on Dec. 30. It will be the fourth straight season the Commodores and Camels will face each other in the pool.
Following winter break, the Dores will have two more meets before the SEC Championships. First up is the two-day tri-meet between Arkansas and Houston on Jan. 19-20. Then they finish up with a road meet at Arkansas Little-Rock on Jan. 27.
Then the Commodores will head down to College Station for the 2018 SEC Championships on Feb. 14-18. Competing against some of the top teams and best swimmers in the country, the Commodores have broken multiple school records at the SECs over the past few seasons.
Vanderbilt will then compete in what is known as the “Last Chance Meet”. The Commodores will try to improve their times and qualify for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
The 2018 NCAA Championships will be held in Columbus, Ohio and hosted by Ohio State. The tournament lasts three days and will begin on March 15.
