NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football was selected the Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Team of the Week after defeating No. 18/18 Tennessee over the weekend the Football Writers Association of America and Florida Citrus Sports announced Monday.
The Commodores were recognized by the two organizations for the third time since the start of last season, and sixth overall in the history of the award, following a 45-24 victory over the Volunteers in Knoxville on Saturday. It was Vandy’s first win in the series in seven seasons and its first on the road against the Vols since 2017.
Offensively, the Dores gained 314 yards on the ground—the most they have recorded against an SEC opponent since at least 1996—and 582 total, the most points and yards allowed by Tennessee this fall. Vandy had an average of 9.0 yards per play and controlled possession for just under 35 minutes after outscoring the Volunteers 24-3 in the second half.
The Commodore defense allowed only 28 rushing yards and 137 total after the break to help earn the win. The unit limited the Vols to just 83 yards on the ground and an average of 2.7 yards per carry overall in the contest, holding Tennessee over 100 yards and 1.5 yards per snap below their season average entering play.
