Vandy hosts Marshall on Senior Day

2012 swim team seniorsVanderbilt seniors Zoe Cooper-Surma, Laura Dillon, Stephanie Falcone and Elizabeth Brunk will swim in their final home meet on Saturday, January 21, versus Marshall.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt swimming team hosts its final home meet of the year on Saturday, January 21, when it plays host to Marshall. The meet is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Centennial Sportsplex and the Tracy Caulkins Competition Pool.

It will be senior day for Vanderbilt, as Head Coach Jeremy Organ and his squad will honor the team’s four seniors at the meet. Elizabeth Brunk, Zoe Cooper-Surma, Laura Dillon and Stephanie Falcone will all be swimming their final home meet as Commodores.

Vanderbilt enters with a record of 0-4 in dual meets, as well as a 2nd place finish at Western Kentucky’s Hilltopper Invitational. The Commodores are coming off a 162-132 loss at Evansville.

Against the Purple Aces, Vanderbilt got first-place finishes from Amy Salce (1000 free), Chrissy Oberg (100 back, 100 fly), Margaret Freeman (200 fly) and Caroline Thomas (50 free, 100 free).

Last year, Vanderbilt scored its only win of the season against the Thundering Herd in Huntington, W. Va. The Commodores took a 160.5-136.5 decision behind a school record in the 1000 yard freestyle from Erika Deardorf. The Texas native also won the 500 yard freestyle.

The Commodores also got wins from returners Margaux Georgiadis (200 freestyle), Melissa Roberts (50 freestyle), Amy Salce (200 backstroke) and Laura Dillon (100 breaststroke).

After swimming against the Thundering Herd, Vanderbilt will travel to Columbia, S.C., to face SEC foe South Carolina on Saturday, January 28. That meet begins at 9:00 a.m. CT.
