Vandy Drops Conference Opener

The Dores return to action home on Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Savannah Derey posted a game-high seven posts as No. 14/14 James Madison defeated Vanderbilt, 20-8, in the conference opener on Saturday afternoon at the David Williams II Recreation & Wellness Center.

Vanderbilt’s offense came out firing with three straight goals in the opening five minutes of the contest to take an early 3-0 lead. James Madison responded with eight unanswered to take an 8-3 lead after the opening frame. After a scoreless eight minutes in the second, Nancy Halleron ended the Commodore scoring drought off a pass from Maddie Barkate.  Vandy followed by adding two more while the Dukes added three of their to take an 11-7 lead at the break. James Madison outscored Vandy 9-1 in the second half.

Vanderbilt (3-6, 0-1 AAC) had four scorers on the day, led by Jaime Biskup, who posted her third hat trick of the season, 13th career. Biskup dished one assist to bring her point total to team-high four on the day. Nancy Halleron found the back of the cage twice for the Dores, her fourth straight game with multiple scores.

Brooke Baker added three points off two goals and an assist, scoring multiple goals in every game this season but one. Kemper Robinson added a goal and dished an assist and two caused turnovers while grabbing a ground ball and draw control for the black and gold.

James Madison (5-3, 1-0 AAC) dominated the draw circle, led by Maddie Epke who picked up a game-high 20 draws.  Epke also added four goals off five shots. Derey’s seven points come from six goals and an assist, the most goals scored by an individual opponent so far this season.

Vanderbilt returns to action on Tuesday evening, hosting Rider. The matchup will begin at 5 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
