NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Devin McGlockton and Jason Edwards scored 19 points apiece on Wednesday to lead five individuals in double figures as Vanderbilt defeated The Citadel 105-53 at Memorial Gymnasium.
McGlockton was 9-of-13 from the floor while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds, with Edwards finishing with four rebounds and three assists against no turnovers. AJ Hoggard posted 13 points—the 60th time in his collegiate career he has scored in double digits—and a season-best eight assists, Jaylen Carey supplied 12 points and seven rebounds and Tyler Nickel added 11 after making 3-of-6 attempts from 3-point range. Chris Mañon recorded five steals and five rebounds as well.
It was the most points scored this season by the Commodores (10-1), and the first time Vandy has surpassed the 100-point mark since a season-opening victory over Maryland Eastern Shore.
McGlockton and Carey each had two layups as the Dores opened the contest with an 18-4 run in the first eight minutes, with the margin growing to 22 on a 3-pointer from Hoggard with eight minutes left in the half. Vandy went up by 30 points, 43-13, three minutes before the break with the Commodore lead reaching 40 points after a steal and a breakaway dunk by MJ Collins Jr. at the midway mark of the second half.
The Dores shot 55.9 percent from the field overall, making 12-of-23 from beyond the arc, while connecting on 81 percent at the free-throw line. In addition to outrebounding The Citadel 38-27 Vandy was credited with 19 assists on 38 baskets while turning the ball over only three times.
The Bulldogs (5-6) were led by Colby McAllister’s 15 points in 22 minutes off the bench, with Brody Fox scoring nine and Sola Adebisi accounting for eight points and six rebounds.
The Citadel shot 41.3 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 20 times, which led to a 35-2 advantage for the Commodores in points from turnovers.
The Dore will play one last game prior to the holiday break, with Austin Peay scheduled to visit Memorial Gymnasium Saturday at 2 p.m. on SEC Network+.
