Vanderbilt Women’s Soccer in the SEC Tournament 11/7/2003 Lady Gators Defeat the Commodores, 3-1 ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The No. 8 Florida Gators scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Vanderbilt Commodores, 3-1, in first round action of the Southeastern Conference Tournament. Vanderbilt is now 8-7-3, while Florida is 15-3-1. All-SEC first teamer Jennifer Lewis scored the game’s first goal when she floated a 40-yard shot over the Florida goalkeeper’s head at the 18:03 mark. It was the second goal of the season for the senior midfielder giving the Commodores a 1-0 lead. “Jen Lewis’ early goal was exciting, but our intensity dropped after that,” Vanderbilt head coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill said. “Florida is a great team and they are peaking at the right time,” Hill added. “Their speed of play was fabulous tonight. The Lady Gators tied the game at the 32:57 mark when Robin Fulton scored on a 18-yard shot that went past VU goalkeeper Esther Thompson when she came out to clear the ball. Megan McMillan gave the Lady Gators a lead at the 42:52 mark when her header from five-yards out from Ashley Kellgren went into the right side of the net. Florida took a 3-1 lead when Crystal Frimpong scored on a rebound when Thompson punched the ball out on the previous cross. Vanderbilt totaled six shots, three on goal, while Florida totaled 11, seven on goal. Thompson numbered four saves in the contest, while Florida’s Brittni Goodwin totaled two. |
