Birmingham, Ala. – Commodore tackle Brian Stamper earned Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week honors for his effort against Wake Forest last Thursday, the league office announced Tuesday.

Stamper, a native of Windermere, Fla. who attended Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, played one of the finest games of his Vanderbilt career in helping the Commodores to a 24-20 season-opening win over the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Stamper becomes the Commodores’ first Offensive Lineman of the Week since Brian Kovolisky was recognized following Vanderbilt’s 31-13 win over Mississippi State last year.

Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson was pleased for his junior tackle.

“I’m very happy the league office recognized Brian’s effort last week at Wake Forest. Brian put together an excellent performance, one that helped us defeat Wake Forest. Brian put in a tremendous amount of effort during the offseason to become a better football player. Brian’s hard work was evident in the season opener. I’m very pleased for Brian, for the offensive coaches, and for Brian’s teammates across the line,” Johnson said.

Stamper and the other Commodore offensive linemen provided excellent protection for quarterback Jay Cutler, who amassed 365 yards in total offense. The line did not allow a sack at Wake Forest.
