FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Vanderbilt swimming wrapped up its first meet of the 2012-13 season at the Arkansas Relays Saturday with a fifth-place finish and a total of 160 points.
Arkansas, the host school, won the meet with 526 total points, while North Texas, SMU and Missouri State rounded out the top four.
“I thought the meet went well, I don’t think that the score was an indication of how well we competed today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ. “With it being this early in the season we have a lot to work on.”
One the Commodores top finishing relay teams came in the 3×100 yard breaststroke relay. Elly Faulkner, Sarah Lynch and Jenn Mann helped Vanderbilt finish third with a time of 3:19.56.
Chrissy Oberg, Jenn Mann, Lauren Torres and Caroline Thomas swam the 400 yard medley relay, as the Commodores came in third in a time of 3:52.17.
In the final event of the day, which was the 400 yard free relay, Vanderbilt came in third place once again, as they finished with a time of 3:35.35. The team comprised of Thomas, Torres, Melissa Roberts and Hannah Martin.
“With a short turn around between now and the LSU meet, we will try to work on some little things like starts and turns, but our main focus remains on the end of the season and I feel we are in a really good spot right now,” Organ said.
Following the Arkansas Relays, Vanderbilt will host its first of five home meets this season on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in a dual with LSU at the Centennial Sportsplex. Start time is at 3 p.m.
