Team Record and Series Notes:

  • This is the 115th year of Vanderbilt basketball, with the first season taking place in 1900-01. There were no teams in 1904-05 and 1905-06.
  • Vanderbilt improves to 1-0 all-time versus Houston Baptist, as this was the first meeting between the two schools.
  • The win snapped a three game losing streak for the Dores and it is the fourth home win of the season.
  • Vanderbilt improves to 7-0 all-time versus Southland Conference teams.
  • The Dores are also 2-3 all-time against teams with the Huskies’ nickname (0-3 vs. UConn, 1-0 vs. Northeastern).

Team Notes:

  • Tonight marked Vanderbilt’s 1,010th straight game with a three-point field goal. Vanderbilt is just one of three schools to have made a three-point basket in every game since the inception of the three-point line in the 1986-87 season. The others are Princeton and UNLV.
  • Starters for tonight’s game were Saben Lee, Joe Toye, Jeff Roberson, Matthew Fisher-Davis and Riley LaChance.
  • The Commodores only allowed 17 points in the first half, the lowest total in any half by an opponent this season.
  • The 33-point win was the largest margin of victory for the Dores under Bryce Drew. It was the largest since a 34-point win over Wofford on Dec. 19, 2015.
  • The Dores allowed 48 points to the Huskies, the lowest by any opponent this season.
  • Vanderbilt held Houston Baptist to 16-for-61 (26%) from the floor and 1-for-18 (6%) from three, both season lows for an opponent this year.
  • It was the fewest three pointers made by an opponent since the Dores shutout Nebraska (0-for-10) on Nov. 18, 2010.
  • The Dores hit 12 threes on the night, their third game this season with 10 or more.
  • Vanderbilt hauled in a season-high 45 rebounds in the win.
  • The Dores won the rebounding battle (45-38) for the seventh time this season.
  • Vanderbilt dished out 20 assists on the night, the second game this season it has had 20 or more.

Player Notes:

  • Matthew Fisher-Davis led the way with 19 points, his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season.
  • Fisher-Davis was 5-for-9 from behind the arc, his third game this year with five or more.
  • Jeff Roberson tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win. It is his sixth double-double of the season, which leads the SEC.
  • Riley LaChance scored in double-digits for the sixth time this season after totaling 11 against the Huskies.
  • LaChance tied a season-high in assists with five.
  • Maxwell Evans was a key contributor of the bench scoring a season high 14 points in only 13 minutes of action.
  • Walk-on Isaiah Rice made his first collegiate appearance in the final minutes Wednesday night.
  • Saben Lee tied for the team lead in assists with five. It is his fifth game this season with five or more.
  • Joe Toye set a career-high in blocks with two.
