Vanderbilt Plans “Military Appreciation Day” In Conjunction With Navy Game October 11 10-6-03 Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt plans the lowest single-game ticket promotion of the year Saturday, October 11 when the Commodores play host to the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen. As part of Military Appreciation Day at Vanderbilt, current and retired employees of the United States armed services can purchase up to four tickets at $5.00 each prior to the game between the Commodores and Midshipmen. A military I.D. or uniform attire is required for the ticket discount. Navy, 3-2 overall, enters the non-conference game with the 1-5 Commodores off a 28-25 victory last Saturday over #25 ranked Air Force. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., CST. Numerous activities honoring the military are planned. Several military vehicles will be displayed in front of Vanderbilt Stadium before the game. Minutes prior to kickoff, four Navy F-18 jets from Norfolk, Virginia will perform a flyover of the stadium. “Our military is very important to Vanderbilt. This is the least that we can do to show our gratitude towards them for what they have done for our nation,” Vanderbilt Chancellor Gordon Gee said. The game also serves as homecoming on the Vanderbilt campus. Numerous pre-game activities, including a pep rally and concert by Busta Rhymes Friday night, are scheduled around the Vanderbilt campus. This marks the first game between Vanderbilt and the United States Naval Academy since 1993 when the Commodores captured a 41-7 victory in Nashville. The Commodores lead in the series, 2-1-2. Tickets are available throughout the week at the Vanderbilt Athletic Box Office in McGugin Center, or via the Internet at www.commodoregameday.com.
