TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team continued play at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on Saturday with the Commodores advancing one doubles team and three singles players to the semifinals of their respective draws.
After advancing to the finals of the ITA Southeast Championships last week, Vanderbilt’s duo of Adam Baker and Alex Zotov continued their hot play on Saturday. The duo advanced to the semifinals of the Red Draw with an 8-4 win over Bernie Bachino and Gustavo Holz of Jacksonville State.
In singles competition, the Commodores were paced by James Moye, who advanced to the finals of the Gene Stallings draw. Beyond Moye, Alex DiValerio and Zotov advanced to the semifinals of their draw.
Moye advanced through the round of 16 after Mississippi State’s Tanner Stump withdrew because of injury. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Alabama’s Creighton Blanchard, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. To reach the final, Moye topped Virginia Tech’s Johnathon Pine, 7-5, 6-2.
He will now face Clemson’s Robert Pietrucha in Sunday’s final.
DiValerio defeated Clemson’s Taylot Cohen in the round of 16 and UAB’s Tommy Petrich in the quarterfinals.
Zotov earned wins over Auburn’s Alex Petropolous (round of 16) and UT Martin’s Andrey Yesipov (quarterfinals) to advance.
Also posting wins in consolation play were Charlie Jones, Nick Cromydas and Bryant Salcedo.
The Commodores will conclude play at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on Sunday.
