Vanderbilt fans had one more opportunity to celebrate the Commodores’ historic football season Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
The Music City Bowl champions attended the Vanderbilt-Alabama men’s basketball game, signing autographs prior to tipoff before taking center stage at halftime.
As the team hit the floor, a standing ovation quickly followed. Head coach James Franklin grabbed the microphone and thanked fans for supporting the program. Franklin then rattled off a list of accomplishments by the 2012 squad and promised more to come. “They talk about the longest win streak in the SEC. Yes, that’s Vanderbilt. … This is just the beginning,” Franklin declared.
Before the ceremony concluded, Franklin offered a final challenge to help the Commodores moving forward.
“We must sell out the spring game and every single game next year, especially the out-of-conference games. We’ve got to sell them all out and let the country know that Vanderbilt’s here, and we’re not going anywhere. Thanks so much.”
