Vanderbilt Hires Dunlap As Assistant Men’s Golf Coach 7/7/2004
Vanderbilt Hires Dunlap As Assistant Men’s Golf Coach Former Vanderbilt linkster Craig Dunlap has been named as the new assistant men’s golf coach according to Commodore head coach Press McPhaul. He returns to the program after a year spent working in the insurance business. “I am very happy to be back at Vanderbilt, because I really missed dealing with this group of people,” said Dunlap. “One of the major reasons I came back to VU was to work alongside Press McPhaul. He’s a tremendous teacher of the game and has the Commodore program on the rise nationally. I know these players very well, and feel that I can provide a solid contribution to the team as they continue to climb the ladder towards a national championship.” Dunlap, a Dallas, Texas, native, played for the Black and Gold from 1999-2003 and helped the ‘Dores to the program’s initial NCAA Championship appearance during his senior campaign. A 2003 Cleveland Golf/Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar and three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Dunlap registered a career scoring average of 75.98 with four top-30 finishes. His career-best third place ranking at the 2002 Mason Rudolph Championship, after rounds of 69-66-67 for an 8-under par total of 202, helped the Black and Gold pick up the team title. “It’s exciting to have Craig Dunlap back with our program,” said Vanderbilt head coach Press McPhaul. “He is a solid individual and possesses a strong knowledge of the game of golf. It’s a bonus for our program that he’s here because Craig already knows the players and understands how things operate at Vanderbilt.” |
