Vanderbilt heads to Houston for Phill Hansel Invitational

Nov. 15, 2017

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Vanderbilt Swimming will hit the road this week for the third time in the early part of the 2017-18 season, as they travel to Houston, Texas to take part in the 10th annual Phill Hansel Invitational from November 16-18 at the Campus Wellness and Recreation Center, hosted by the University of Houston.

“We’re excited to get there and race as a team,” said Head Coach Jeremy Organ, who is taking his team to the Hansel Invitational for the second season in a row. “Now that we are in the invite time of the year, we’re ready to race well for three days.”

Vanderbilt joins a majority of teams across the country who head to mid-season invites in middle to late November. All swimmers are only allowed to race in four events over the three days of the invitational, so Organ is looking forward to seeing how the team performs while racing less than in a normal dual.

“We’ll see how they do and react to a little bit of rest,” said Organ. “This is like our midterm grades, so we’ll want to see some people step up.”

The Phill Hansel Invitational – which only invites women’s teams – will feature eight other teams joining Vanderbilt and Houston from all over the country, including Air Force, Colorado State, Idaho, New Mexico, North Texas, Rice, Northern Colorado, and Tulane. Events on all three days of competition begin at 10 a.m.
