LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Vanderbilt was unable to gain momentum in the second half Tuesday at Louisville as the Cardinals pulled away to a 15-6 victory.
Louisville went up 4-0 in the first quarter before Maddie Souza put the Dores on the board with 90 seconds left in the period. Souza led Vandy with two goals.
Ellie Hilsabeck scored one minute later to cut Louisville’s lead to 4-2.
The Cardinals went up by five with three quick goals to start the second quarter, but Vanderbilt responded with three unanswered goals by Kayla Rieu, Karlie Bucci and Souza to pull within two at 7-5.
Louisville scored with 50 seconds to go before halftime to lead 8-5 at the break.
The Cardinals maintained momentum into the second half, outscoring Vanderbilt 7-1 over the final 30 minutes to win 15-6.
The Commodores return to Nashville to host East Carolina at noon on Saturday.
