Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings
Opening Statement:
“I thought it was an interesting, probably entertaining game. We just had too many breakdowns in the end to be able to win the game. We have a good effort and didn’t take care of the ball well. It was certainly nice to have Luke Kornet back and Damian gave us good effort, but we just didn’t do enough to win the game. We needed a stop with 13 seconds left to play and we get caught staring at the ball, and they make a wide open three. It’s just one of those things.”
On the last play of regulation:
“We were just hoping to throw the ball down there to someone open and get an attack on the basket. Luke decided to throw it to Damian and he made a heck of a play I thought. I wasn’t surprised Coach Anderson called a timeout to set up a defense there because all coaches want to do that. We don’t want to get caught like that. I called timeout after we scored in the previous possession so I’m not surprised and I might have done the same thing.”
On Anthlon Bell:
“He had a great night. He shot the ball very well, and he’s a guy who has gotten a lot better in this program and he’s having his best year right now.”
On Arkansas overall:
“They are a typical Arkansas team. They play hard, they share the ball, they have a guy inside that’s good and hard to guard, and they have guys that can shoot. They pressure you and try to speed you up. They’re a good team.”
Arkansas Head Coach Mike Anderson
Opening Statement:
“I thought our guys got after it. We were comfortable in what we wanted to do and our confidence reflected throughout the game. To me it seemed like our guys were out there playing for each other and that’s what I’m used to seeing. I think our defense hit them with the element of surprise and forced them to turn the ball over many times.”
Anthlon Bell
On the late 3-pointer in regulation:
“A game is never over with. We know that from early on in the season and past experiences, teams are never out of it. Good teams like Vanderbilt always have a little something left in them, and we credit them on making a play down the stretch like that. Going into extra minutes we knew fatigue was going to be a factor for them going down the stretch, and they got sloppy with the ball, and we were able to take advantage of that weakness.”
Keaton Miles
On winning in OT:
“It’s a big sign of relief. It’s great to come out with a win. We just came off of a bad loss and we all wanted to get that taste out of our mouths. As a group our trials make us tighter and more of a family. It’s a stronger brotherhood and we were able to get the win like we wanted to.”
Moses Kinsley
On the needed win:
“After two back-to-back disappointing losses we needed this one to get our confidence back instead of going to the next game against Mississippi State and then having to play on the road. We needed this one for confidence and to have one SEC win under our belt. We will play Mississippi State and try to take one here at home and then go try to steal one on the road after that.”
