Valent bows out of NCAA singles tournament

TULSA, Okla. – Following the first round of NCAA singles tournament, sophomore standout No. 36 Daniel Valent, returns to Nashville after falling to FSU’s 11th-ranked Benjamin Lock.

The Zurich, Switzerland native came out wide open in his NCAA individual tournament debut, breaking the 9-16 seeded Seminole. Valent held serve to take the two game advantage over Lock, but the experienced redshirt-senior rallied to take the next six games and the first set.

Valent capped his second season with the Commodores, as Lock advanced to the second round of play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. The two-time SEC Player of the Week earned a 16-10 record for the ‘Dores while playing at the No. 1 spot in the ‘Dores singles lineup. Danny heads into his junior season boasting a 60-21 career record.

No. 7 Rhys Johnson and Cameron Klinger will begin the doubles portion of the individual tournament, tomorrow, May 26th at 5:00 pm CT, taking on Ohio State’s 22nd-ranked tandem of Herkko Pollanen and Mikael Torpegaard.
