Two 'Dores still competing ITA Regional

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After the second day of play at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional, two Commodores are still alive in singles play, looking to punch their ticket to the ITA National Indoor Championships in November.

Ryan Lipman has had no trouble advancing to the quarterfinal round, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Andrew Brym of Ball State in the round of 32, and another straight set win (6-3, 6-4), over Purdue’s Szymon Tatarczyk in the round of 16. Blake Bazarnik had a little tougher time advancing to the round of eight, but prevailed in a three-set match over Xavier’s Bobby Deye (1-6, 7-5, 6-2), and then picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alejandro Calligari of Louisville in the round of 16.

In doubles play, the duo of Lipman and Adam Baker were knocked out of the tournament after a 9-7 loss to Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk of Louisville.

Singles play continues on Sunday afternoon as the Commodores take on two Kentucky opponents, Lipman is slated to face Alex Musialek and Bazarnik will face Eric Quigley in quarterfinal matches. Results will be posted to vucommodores.com Sunday afternoon.
