The SEC women’s soccer tournament has come to a close with Florida defeating Tennessee 2-1 in double overtime to capture the SEC championship. With the conclusion of the tournament, sophomore Monica Buff and freshman Sarah Dennis were named to the SEC All-Tournament team.

“Vanderbilt soccer has not had an All Tournament player since the 2000 season,” said Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill. “I am so proud that Monica and Sarah will be the first to revive the tradition of honors and winning in the SEC for Vanderbilt soccer.” <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

Sophomore defender Monica Buff played in all but one game for the Commodores this season. She started 15 of those 18 games. From <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Lilburn, Georgia, Buff made an immediate impact on Vanderbilt’s team in her freshman year. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and SEC Academic honor roll. “Monica Buff has been the most consistent player on our roster,” said Hill. “She is a tenacious yet composed defender.  The combination of Kim Perkins and Monica Buff at the center of our defense has been an integral part of our late season success. I am thrilled that she has received the recognition she deserves for her superior performance this weekend.”

Freshman forward Sarah Dennis was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team prior to the tournament in Auburn. “The immediate impact that Sarah Dennis has made on our program has been tremendous,” said Hill. “On the field, her athleticism allows her to be a constant threat to the opposing team. I am very excited for Sarah and her success in her first year at Vanderbilt.” Dennis has played excellent for the Commodores this season scoring three goals and assisting two giving her a total of eight points overall. In the SEC tournament game against MississippiState, Dennis assisted a goal from Lauren Mitchell which turned out to be the game-winner.

Said Hill, “In my mind, these two All Tournament honors are well deserved.  Both Sarah and Monica played inspired and focused this weekend.”

The Commodores still have hope to get a bid to the NCAA tournament. The announcement will be released at approximately 3:30 p.m. CST. Stay tuned to vucommodores.com for complete coverage.
