Trio of `Dores stay undefeated at Bulldog Scramble

ATHENS, Ga. – Three Vanderbilt men’s tennis players remain undefeated after the second day of round robin action at the Bulldog Scramble on Saturday. The Commodores will wrap up the scramble and their fall season, Sunday, with one round of doubles and singles.

“We had another solid day,” said Vanderbilt assistant coach Jamie Hunt. “Rhys, Pen and Suresh are all still undefeated in singles, which is great to see. As a team I think we are playing our best tennis of the fall and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s matches.”

Vanderbilt went 3-1 in doubles action with wins from Smith/Johnson, Yee/Binet and Offerdahl/Kovrigin. The toughest doubles match of the day came in Ryan Smith and Rhys Johnson’s win over Andrew Korinek and Justin Butsch. Smith and Johnson pulled out the win in the tie-break over the LSU pair.

The Commodores continued their solid play in singles, finishing Saturday with a 5-3 record. Johnson, Suresh Eswaran and Pen Binet all continued their winning ways. Johnson and Binet picked up a wins in straight sets over two Furman players, while Eswaran pulled out the win over Tam Trinh of LSU after dropping the first set 1-6.

Also with wins on Saturday were Kris Yee, who won in straight sets over Boris Arias of LSU, and Mason Vierra who won in three over Eric Diaz of Georgia.
