COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sophomore Lauren Torres led the charge for Vanderbilt on day three of the 2013 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.

Torres represented Vanderbilt in the C Finals of the 100 butterfly Thursday evening and the Phoenix, Ariz., native finishing eighth in the C Finals (24th overall) with a time of 55.24.

Through three days of competition, Vanderbilt has set seven new school records (200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 800 free relay, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 200 IM and 50 free). The Commodores remain in 12th place with 93 total points. Georgia continues to lead with 790 points.

Torres won the third heat of the prelims in the 100 butterfly with her school and personal record-breaking time of 54.64. Leigh-Ann Axt previously set the record in 2008 for the Commodores.

Shortly after her record-breaking swim in the 100 fly, Torres returned to the pool for the prelims of the 200 freestyle. For Torres, it was a different race, but same result, as she broke the school record in a time of 1:49.87, which was also held by Axt (2008).

Also competing in the 100 fly for Vanderbilt: Jess Eccher (59.87), Rebecca Young (57.63) and Chrissy Oberg (56.75).

Margaux Georgiadis (1:54.26), Melissa Roberts (1:52.73) and Amy Salce (1:54.87) all represented the Commodores in the 200 free. The other event on the day was the 400 IM, as Alyxandra Vernon (4:31.93) and Erika Deardorf (4:28.66) swam in the event.

Competition resumes Friday morning at 10 a.m. CT with prelims in the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.
