Top 10 Time

Commodores enter top 10 in this week’s Associated Press poll

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Following a seven-point victory over then-No. 10 LSU on Saturday, the Vanderbilt football team has entered the top 10 of the Associated Press rankings for the first time since 1947.

The Commodores came in at No. 10 in this week’s poll released on Sunday after moving to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC with a 31-24 defeat of the Tigers at FirstBank Stadium in which Vandy led for the final 35-plus minutes after outgaining the Tigers, 399-325, and holding the ball for a season-best 36 and a half minutes.

It was Vandy’s second win over a nationally-ranked opponent this fall, as the Dores beat South Carolina—which was among the top 12 in both polls at the time—in Columbia on Sept. 13. It marks the first time since the 1956 campaign that they have defeated multiple top 25 programs in the same season.

The Commodores have now been ranked each of the last six weeks, the school’s longest stretch ever in the top 25.

ESPN College GameDay Built by The Home Depot will be on site Saturday prior to the Dores’ matchup with No. 15/14 Missouri at FirstBank Stadium. The game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN.
