Time for the Tide, Senior Day

Dores make trip to Alabama before recognizing four student-athletes on Sunday afternoon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Some of the top 3-pointers shooters in the SEC will be on display this week when Vanderbilt and Alabama square off.

The Commodores (11-15, 2-10 SEC) travel to play the Crimson Tide (19-6, 8-4 SEC) on Thursday at 6 p.m. (SEC Network+) at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. On Sunday, Vandy hosts Kentucky at 2 p.m. (SEC Network+) in Memorial Gymnasium.

Vanderbilt guard Marnelle Garraud leads the SEC in 3-pointers made with 72, which is 11 more than the next closest in the conference. Alabama guard Brittany Davis ranks third (57) and teammates Aaliyah Nye (52) and Hannah Barber (45) are sixth and 10th, respectively.

Barber (47.9) and Nye (45.2) lead the SEC in 3-point percentage while Garraud is eighth (39.6).

Alabama ranks second overall as a team in 3-point makes (216) in the SEC and Vanderbilt is fourth (168). The Tide lead the SEC in 3-point percentage (37.6) and the Dores are fifth (34.0).

Vandy guard Ciaja Harbison ranks second in the SEC in scoring (19.3 points), third in assists (4.4) and first in steals (2.5). Garraud is averaging 13.8 points and 1.5 steals per game. Vandy sophomore forward Sacha Washington is averaging 10.2 points and a team-leading 7.0 rebounds.

In their first and only seasons at Vanderbilt after arriving as graduate transfers, Harbison and Garraud are making the most of their time for the shorthanded Dores. They led the SEC in minutes per game, with Harbison averaging 36.5 and Garraud 35.5. Both are shooting 80 percent from the free throw line.

Senior Day Sunday
Although it’s not the final home game of the 2022-23 season, when the Commodores play host to the Wildcats on Sunday Vanderbilt will recognize seniors from both programs. For Vandy, that group will include four individuals: Yaubryon Chambers, Demi Washington, Garraud and Harbison.

Ties That Bind
There are family ties between the two programs as well. Vanderbilt graduate guard Jordyn Cambridge younger sister Kennedy is a freshman for the Wildcats averaging 2.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 18 appearances her first season at the collegiate level.
