Tigers Edge Dores, 4-3 4/3/2005 The No. 52 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team fell to No. 43 Auburn, 4-3 at the Currey Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers captured the doubles point from the Commodores, claiming matches at the second and third positions. The showdown at the top spot showcased the VU tandem of senior Scott Brown and freshman Jason Pinsky against the No. 10 Auburn combo of Gabor Zoltan Pelva and Alex Schweizer. VU stole the matchup from the Tigers, controlling the match from the beginning, 8-4. The Dores countered the Tiger doubles point with freshman Pinsky’s convincing win at the No. 3 position. The Potomac, Md. native notched the first frame, 6-3 and returned to take the second, 6-0. VU sophomore Evan Dufaux laid stake to his second straight SEC match with a straight set win over Brett Hunter, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 slot. The Tigers quickly knotted the match at 2-2 with Schweizer’s showing over VU’s Matt Lockin. Schweizer took the match 6-4, 6-4 at the second position. VU’s Ryan Preston brought the Commodores to within one point of the match with his three set thriller over AU’s Tom George, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1. The Tigers stole the two remaining matches at Nos. 1 and 4 to claim the match, 4-3. Both matches went to the decisive third frame. Vanderbilt returns to action at in-state rival MTSU on Wednesday.
