Three Straight Wins

Dores knock off Virginia Tech for third hidden dual match win in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After three days of competition, Vanderbilt men’s tennis left Tuscaloosa with its third hidden dual match win, 4-2, versus Virginia Tech on Sunday at the Crimson Tide Fall Challenge hosted by Alabama.

The Dores again split doubles results to begin Sunday’s action. It was the combination of junior Danil Panarin and freshman Jack Satterfield who notched another doubles victory, their third consecutive win. The pair defeated Drew Fishback and Patrik Jurina 6-2. It was all Vanderbilt in singles play, winning three of the four matches. Satterfield earned his first victory at the No. 1 position for the Dores after downing Eyal Shumilov 7-5, 6-3. Panarin brought home a second straight win with a 6-1, 6-1 result over Jurina. Freshman Donghyun Hwang finished things off with his second victory of the weekend, moving past Blake Hilsen 6-2, 6-1.

Out of the three conferences involved in the challenge, the SEC secured wins in 10 of the 12 total matches. Virginia Tech took one match for the ACC and Columbia won the last remaining contest for the Ivy League. Vanderbilt and Auburn were the only two schools to not drop a match.

Next up for the Commodores is the Knoxville ATP 50 Challenger hosted by Tennessee at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center. The event is scheduled to run Nov. 3-9 with a singles draw of 32 players and a doubles draw of 16 pairs.
