5/28/2004

BALTIMORE, Md. — Three members of the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team were honored as All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse magazine Friday. Seniors Michelle Allen and Bridget Morris were recognized on the national first team, while senior Jess Roguski was named a second-team honoree.

The 2004 Commodores were champions of the American Lacrosse Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Allen, Roguski and Morris led Vanderbilt in the attack, midfield and defense, respectively.

Allen was named the ALC Player of the Year after leading the Commodores in points (67) and assists (29) this season. A 2004 tri-captain, Allen also was near the top of the Vanderbilt charts in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. She earned numerous conference and national player of the week honors while leading the Dores to a 12-6 record (5-1 in the ALC).

The Commodores top one-on-one defender in 2004 was Morris. She was called upon in most of Vanderbilt’s key matches to shut down the opposition’s top attacker. Morris was fifth in caused turnovers and sixth in ground balls for the Commodores, while usually preventing her mark-up from touching the ball in a dangerous position.

Roguski, a two-year captain, acted as an on-field coach for the Commodores while playing major roles in all facets of the game. She led Vanderbilt with 42 goals, including a pair of hat tricks in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Roguski helped the Dores control the center draw, while also leading the team in caused turnovers. She ended her Vanderbilt career ranked fourth all-time in points and third in goals.

The Commodores graduate a nine-member Class of 2004 this season, including the three Inside Lacrosse honorees.
