LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Vanderbilt swimming team concluded the TYR ‘85 Invite in third place Sunday at the Liberty Natatorium.
“We finished the weekend on a high note with two first-place finishes,” Vanderbilt assistant coach Chelsea Bailey said. “Overall, a great invite and a really solid performance by the team.”
After concluding the prelims, the Commodores earned 21 swims in the finals.
Starting off with the 1650-yard freestyle, junior Lara Hernandez-Tome collected her first win of the Invite by touching in at 16.49.69.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, sophomore Lizzy Colwell notched her second victory of the weekend. Colwell raced a season-best time of 2:15.59.
The Dores also tabbed 3-5 in the 200 breaststroke paced by Lindsey Gordon in third (2:17.93), followed by Hannah Hunt in fourth (2:18.81) and Alina Jones in fifth (2:19.08).
Multiple swimmers raced season-best times in the 100-yard freestyle led by Abby Burke in 12th (51.29).
Closing out the Invitational, the Vanderbilt A relay touched in at 3:25.42 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to place fifth.
The Commodores return to action Jan. 1 at Campbell in the first meet of 2020.
