Johnson to Appear on FOX-17’s ‘Tennessee Mornings’ Show Early Thursday

Nashville, Tenn. – The lowest single-game price in more than a decade and a postgame fireworks show are planned Saturday evening when the Commodores host Rutgers at Vanderbilt Stadium.

Vanderbilt marketing officials are offering all seats for the game at $10 and have added a postgame fireworks display to help entice fans to the game between the Commodores, 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference, and Scarlet Knights, 2-2 overall.

Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson also is scheduled to discuss the game with popular Nashville television personalities Charlie Chase and Kelly Sutton, co-hosts of WZTV Fox-17’s “Tennessee Mornings” show.  Fox 17’s sister station in the Nashville market, UPN 30, is scheduled to broadcast the game live.

Johnson is expected to appear about 7:00 a.m. on the show.  A ticket giveaway to the game will be hosted by Chase and Sutton in conjunction with Johnson’s appearance.

The television appearance will not affect Johnson’s regular appearance on WNSR’s morning show featuring co-hosts Greg Pogue and David Coleman.  Johnson’s weekly segment on the AM 560 sports talk show is 7:35 a.m. on Thursdays.

The game promotions involving $10 tickets and fireworks show were developed by the Vanderbilt athletic marketing staff with the intention of pushing attendance to a non-Southeastern Conference game. Traditionally, non-SEC opponents featured smaller crowds than conference foes in Vanderbilt Stadium.

“It’s a big game for both teams,  a matchup that deserves big crowd,” Vanderbilt athletic marketing director Eric Nichols said.  “When we put our promotion plan together in the preseason, this game stood out as a great non-conference contest. Both teams play exciting football.

“We want families, groups and co-workers to experience the excitement of Commodore football.  With a late start, this game offers an ideal opportunity to tailgate with friends to get geared up for the game.  What better way to draw potential fans than a reduced ticket price, a great game and a postgame activity that everybody enjoys,” Nichols added.

Kickoff for the Rutgers-Vanderbilt game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
