It’s college football season in the South. Classes have started. And Erin Andrews and the ESPN crew are coming to campus.

After an impressive outing against Miami (Ohio) last week, the Commodores return home for their season home opener and SEC schedule opener against South Carolina this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The team and the Vanderbilt student body ask that all fans, even those watching from home, participate in a “Black Out” – where black shirts, headbands, jackets, etc. to the game that evening. Feel free to go crazy and get creative with your styles.

Senior quarterback Chris Nickson knows that the energy and enthusiasm generated from this will go a long way to jump-start the team’s performance.

“The excitement level makes you play better,” said Nickson, “and to start the game off with so much excitement, and to start the season off with so much excitement, it’ll be really exhilarating for our players and the Vanderbilt community.”

Junior safety Ryan Hamilton agreed, adding that the atmosphere will definitely give the players the edge over their opponents with the energy coming from the crowd.

The Gamecocks opened the season in impressive fashion, shutting out North Carolina State 34-0. Last year, Vanderbilt spoiled South Carolina’s undefeated season with a hard-earned 17-6 win in Columbia.

“All the fans need to come out dressed in black, and that’ll get everybody going,” said senior receiver Sean Walker.

If you can’t make it to Dudley Field, ESPN will televise the game, and you can listen to Joe Fisher’s radio call on 104.5 the Zone as well as VUcommodores.com.

And don’t forget to wear BLACK.
