Vanderbilt posts strong start to Commodore Invitational against Arkansas

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt had a strong first day of the Commodore Invitational on Friday, taking three of four doubles matches and four more singles decisions against SEC foe Arkansas at Currey Tennis Center.

In doubles to start the afternoon, James Ignatowich and Connor Robb-Wilcox cruised 8-2 with Max Freeman and Joubert Klopper following shortly after with an 8-4 victory. Marcus Ferreira and Macsen Sisam closed out an 8-6 victory to make it three in a row to start the afternoon and the Dores nearly made it a fourth doubles win, but George Harwell and Adam Sraberg dropped a back-and-forth match 8-7 (3).

 

 

In singles action, Freeman and Ferreira posted dueling 6-3, 6-1 victories to continue Vanderbilt’s dominance. After a pair of Arkansas wins, Klopper finished off Melvin Manuel with a 6-3, 7-6 win and Ignatowich persevered through a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Avery Zavala to close the day.

Vanderbilt will continue the Commodore Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. against Auburn. While spectators are not permitted at Currey Tennis Center, fans can follow the match with live scoring and streaming.
