Swimming will head to the east coast this week for their second straight road trip as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for a dual with the North Florida Ospreys at the Semmes Aquatic Center on Thursday at 11 a.m.
The Dores travel to the Sunshine State looking to build off last-week’s season-opening swim at Kentucky. Despite the loss, Head Coach Jeremy Organ was pleased with his team’s performance.
“This is an opportunity to put what we’ve been doing in practice into a meet,” said Organ. “We’re going to be looking for some good races.”
Vanderbilt placed a young team in the pool in Lexington, and the freshmen stepped up to the challenge. Both Hannah Hunt and Lauren Bergmann finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke and backstroke, respectively. Hunt also helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a third place finish.
Organ liked what he saw during the Kentucky dual, but stressed the importance of preparation, as the Dores race events in Florida they have not competed in at this point in the new season, such as the 400-yard individual medley.
“This dual will have a little different format for us,” said Organ. “We’re looking to see some intensity in the events we haven’t swam yet,
Following the dual, Vanderbilt takes a brief break from competition before returning to campus for their first home dual of the season against Arkansas on November 4.
Notes on North Florida: North Florida welcomes the Dores after suffering two losses at home in a tri- meet against Florida International and Georgia Southern last weekend.
Freshman Sydney Groth, who finished the tri-meet with wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200- and 100-yard butterfly, led the Ospreys. Groth also placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
