Swimming heads to Arkansas

Feb. 2, 2012

The Vanderbilt swimming team concludes its regular season with a pair of dual meets this weekend. They visit Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday, February 3., before traveling to SEC foe Arkansas on Saturday, February 4.

The showdown with the Trojans gets underway at the Donaghey Aquatic Center in Little Rock, Ark., at 3:00 p.m. The Saturday meet with the Razorbacks at the Arkansas Natatorium in Fayetteville, Ark., begins at 1:00 p.m.

For Vanderbilt and Head Coach Jeremy Organ, the meets provide one last opportunity to see where the team stands before the SEC Championships February 15-18 in Knoxville, Tenn.

“Both of these meets will give us a chance to see where we stand entering the SECs,” Organ said. “Arkansas traditionally has a very strong program so it will provide a good measuring stick, but we certainly can’t over look Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday, either.”

Organ is especially anxious for his four seniors – Stephanie Falcone, Laura Dillon, Zoe Cooper-Surma and Elizabeth Brunk – to see how they perform in the final dual meets of their careers.

“For our four seniors, it really gives them a chance to have one last statement before SECs and I’m excited for that opportunity,” Organ explained.

The Commodores are coming off a pair of losses in Columbia, S.C., to South Carolina (187-122) and East Carolina (214-114). Prior to that, they got their only dual win of the season, defeating Marshall, 167-120, on Senior Day at the Centennial SportsPlex in Nashville. In addition to their 1-6 dual meet record, Vanderbilt has a second place finish at the Hilltopper Invitational behind it as well.

The Trojans will host Vanderbilt on Friday coming off a 137-124 loss to North Texas. UALR is 1-2 in dual meets on the year.

Arkansas is 2-3 in dual meets this year and is coming off a 199-96 win over Kansas. The Razorbacks also won the Rice Invitational earlier in the year.

After its swing through the Natural State, the Commodores will head to the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Knoxville, Tenn., from February 15-18. The event will be held at the University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
