NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt swimming falls to SEC rival Auburn and Notre Dame Saturday afternoon, in Auburn, Ala. The Commodores capped the meet off coming in second place three events.
The Commodores fell 152-142 to the Fighting Irish. However, by deducting the diving portion of the meet, which Vanderbilt does not participate in, the ‘Dores defeated Notre Dame by 22 points. The Tigers defeated Vandy 201-75 to in their third tri-meet of the season.
Sophomore Carrie Bencic placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 10:22.58.
Breanna Sapienza and Kayla Moran placed second and third respectively in the 100-yard butterfly. Sapienza, a freshman, came in with a time of 55.26. Moran swam in shortly after, finishing the race at 56.67
Vandy swim came in second place once again, this time in the 400-yard relay, boasting a time of 3:30.08. Following the team of Martin, Summer Brown and Caroline Thomas. Vandy secured third place with Madeline Hunt, Spaienza, and Elly Faulkner swimming past two Notre Dame teams and coming in with a time of 3:31.52.
The Commodores take a break for a two weeks and then head back out on the road as they travel to Huntington, W.V. to take on Marshall and Xavier.
