NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt will host five home meets to highlight the 2012-13 women’s swimming schedule, head coach Jeremy Organ announced Wednesday. The home schedule at Centennial Sportsplex is highlighted by SEC opponents LSU and Alabama.
Vanderbilt will kick off the season at the Arkansas Relays on Oct. 6 in Fayetteville, Ark. The swim team then hosts three-straight home meets beginning with LSU on Oct. 10, Alabama Oct. 26 and then Tulane and Western Kentucky in a tri-meet Nov. 3.
“I’m really excited about this year’s schedule, especially with the opportunity to swim at our home pool for five of the meets,” Organ said. “We have a really great balance of meets to challenge us this year. Having three SEC meets in October (at Arkansas, LSU and Alabama at home) will really challenge us early in the season, but will give us a good reading on where we are going to be for the season.”
Coach Organ and his squad travel to Huntington, W. Va., to take on Marshall Nov. 10, before competing in the Western Kentucky Invite Nov. 15-17 in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Black and Gold then kick off the new year at home versus Evansville on Jan. 12 and then in-state rival and SEC opponent, Tennessee welcomes the Commodores to Knoxville on Jan. 30.
To finish off the regular season of competition, Vandy will host Arkansas-Little Rock at the Centennial Sportsplex on Feb. 2.
The Commodores will travel to College Station, Texas, for the SEC Championships Feb. 19-23 and the NCAA Championships will be held March 21-23 in Indianapolis, Ind.
“I think this is going to be a very exciting year and we are really looking forward to the SEC Championships at Texas A&M,” Organ said. “The meet is going to be extremely exciting with the two new teams (Texas A&M and Missouri) in the mix.”
The five home meets are the most since the program was restarted in 2006, while the Commodores will also be competing in the Western Kentucky Invite for the seventh-straight season, dating back to 2006.
