NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team returns to the pool this week as it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to swim against Arkansas in dual meet action on Friday afternoon. The meet between the Commodores (1-2, 0-1 SEC) and Razorbacks (3-1, 1-1 SEC)) will start at 4 p.m. from the Arkansas Natatorium.

VU will be up against a stiff challenge Friday as Arkansas possesses a lot of swimmers ranked in the top 25 nationally in their respected event.

“We are looking to improve on our results compared to our last meet,” Head Coach Jeremy Organ said. “Arkansas is a very good team and we have to be at our best if we hope to be competitive with them.”

Through two fall meets Vanderbilt’s young squad has shown the depth and versatility that was expected of them coming into the 2009-10 season. Despite only three upperclassmen, the Commodores continue to make strides in their times and technique in each meet and each practice.

Vanderbilt looks to get back on the winning track this week after being edged by Southern Illinois, 145-114 in its lone home meet of the season on Oct. 17. The Commodores took a lot of positives out of the meet however as they swam to five, first-place finishes in the meet.

The ‘Dores led 13-4 over the Salukis of Southern Illinois after the first event (400-yard medley relay). Vanderbilt’s Chelsea Morey, Sarah Lynch, Laura Dillon and Jennifer Molchan captured first-place honors in the 400 medley relay after notching a time of 4:00.51 while VU’s relay team of Rose Cornelson, Allie Voss, Jess Eccher and Anna Fargo came in third.

Cornelson and Morey tacked on 13 more points when they placed first and second in the 100-yard backstroke while Dillon and Molchan contributed in a big way with second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.

Amy Salce’s 200-yard backstroke first-place time of 2:11.31 added nine more points while Morey and Cornelson followed in third and fourth, respectively.
