HOUSTON, Texas – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team led Florida International 96-81 after day one of the Phil Hansel Duals at the Wellness Center Natatorium in Houston. Going into tomorrow’s final day Vanderbilt trails Rice 138-89, Incarnate Word 93-90 and Houston 143.5-39.5.
Alexandra Jennings posted a team and season-best time of 1:03.43 in the 100 backstroke to finish in 11th place. The freshman duo of Laura Dillon and Allie Voss posted season-high times of 2:26.27 and 2:26. 39 in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Dillon and Voss’s times were over two seconds faster than their personal best.
Fellow freshman Kelly Obranowicz swam to a season-best time of her own in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.36 to finish in fourth place out of a field of 20 swimmers.
The tandem of Voss and Zoe Cooper-Surma posted top-10 finishes in the 50-yard freestyle by swimming to personal best times of 25.40 and 25.44, respectively. Voss and Cooper-Surma finished in seventh and eighth place out of 25 swimmers. Freshman diver Nicole Woodworth posted a fourth-place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 214.10.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Leigh-Ann Axt, Anna Fargo, Jennifer Molchan and Obranowicz swam to a fifth-place finish with a season-best time of 3:41.79. Friday’s time was nearly seven seconds faster than the `Dores team of Axt, Voss, Obranowicz and Molchan swam against Alabama back on Sept. 27.
The Phil Hansel Duals will begin tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. from Houston’s CRWC Natatorium. Saturday’s action will begin with the 400-yard medley relay.
