NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Three of the Vandy swim team’s top performers in the pool also earned top marks in the classroom as Kathryn Coughlin, Kara Lucenti and Kayla Moran earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America Academic All-American honorable mentions for their work this past season.

“These honors are something that we strive for here at Vanderbilt,” said head coach Jeremy Organ. “This is the type of the hard work that we look for in our student-athletes and obviously a testament to the time they’ve put in in the pool and outside of the pool. To be recognized is a great achievement and shows is a testimate to the athletic department and the great work that is being done from everyone from the academic staff, training staff and the administration. We’re so happy for those three to earn the recognition they deserve.”

The All-American honorable mention selections recognize students who have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.

A double major in Human and Organizational Development and Psychology, Katherine Coughlin, earned her NCAA “B” cut in the 100 breaststoke at the SEC Championships with a lifelong best time, cementing her place in the event’s final swim that night.

Lucenti, a sophomore out of Kenilworth established her “B” cut in the 100 breast as well in Columbia, Mo., and broke the Vanderbilt 200 breast the following day. In all, Lucenti helped establish three Vanderbilt records in 2016 and looks to break more in her junior season.

Moran, a raising senior, was instrumental in the Commodores’ success in record-breaking relays. The neuroscience major helped smash VU’s previous 200 free relay, 200 medley relay (with Lucenti), 400 free relay records.
