NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team will wrap up its fall season this weekend as it makes the 70-minute trek north to Bowling Green, Ky., to compete in the Hilltopper Invitational Nov. 20-22. It marks the second consecutive season the Commodores have swam at the Hilltopper Invite.
This year’s meet features teams from Missouri-Rolla, Centre College, Marshall, University of the Cumberlands, and host, Western Kentucky.
Vanderbilt (1-4, 0-2 SEC) is coming off a 206-87 loss to Arkansas in Fayetteville on Nov. 6. The Commodores have continued to swim faster marks in each race this season as they set 18 season-high times against the Razorbacks.
Through two fall meets Vanderbilt’s young squad has shown the depth and versatility that was expected of them coming into the 2009-10 season. Despite only three upperclassmen, the Commodores continue to make strides in their times and technique in each meet and each practice.
The Commodores will look to continue its success swimming at the Raymond B. Preston Center this weekend after nearly every VU swimmer recorded its fastest time of the fall season a year ago, including a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke set by freshman Laura Dillon. Dillon’s 2:22.00 clocking in the 200 breast during the final day of the meet last year broke Susan Hahm’s 19-year old school record. Dillon would eventually break her own 200 breast record at the SEC Championships in the spring.
The 2009 Hilltopper Invite will get underway on Friday and will conclude on Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned to vucommodores.com for a recap and results of each day’s action in Bowling Green.
