NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team returns to competition this weekend for the first time in over a month as it travels to Houston, Texas for the Phil Hansel Duals. The two-day meet will begin Friday at 6 p.m., from the CRWC Natatorium on Houston’s campus. Teams competing in this year’s Phil Hansel Duals besides Vanderbilt include Incarnate Word, Rice, Florida International and Houston.
“We are looking forward to racing again, everyone has been extremely well the past couple of weeks,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “We are looking to see improved confidence in our races and improvement in race strategy.”
Through the first three meets the `Dores have been led by the sophomore duo of Leigh-Ann Axt and Jennifer Molchan. Axt is coming off a sensational freshman season where she broke three school records while Molchan has posted team-high times in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke.
Freshmen Kelly Obranowicz and Zoe Cooper-Surma 50-yard freestyle times of 25.60 and 25.62 lead the team while Axt has led the Commodores this fall in the distance freestyle events. Fellow freshman Nicole Woodworth has been a nice addition to the team this season as well. Woodworth recorded two first-place finishes in the one and three meter dives in last month’s home meet against Centre and Rhodes College.
Final results and a recap from each day of the Phil Hansel Duals will be posted following the conclusion of competition on vucommodores.com.
