Swim Team in Third Place After Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team concluded day one at the Hilltopper Invite in third place with 138 points. Host school Western Kentucky leads with 319 points, while the University of Evansville sits in second place with 158 points.

The Commodores posted a one-two finish in the 500-yard freestyle A final. Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt finished in first, posting a time of 5:02.52, winning the event by five and a half seconds. Fellow freshman Jennifer Molchan finished in second with a time of 5:08.80.

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshmen Julia Applebaum and Christina Chao finished first and second in the B final. Applebaum recorded a time of 25.74, while Chao finished with a time of 26.10.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the all-freshman team of Axt, Chao, Applebaum and Molchan finished in third with a 1:41.80. The team of Jessica Aspinall, Mallory Neltner, Claire Donahue and Julia Meredith from Western Kentucky finished in first with a time of 1:38.05.

Competition continues tomorrow at the Bill Powell Natatorium.
