BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team remains in third with 323 points following the second day of competition at the Hilltopper Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky. Host school Western Kentucky is in first place with 760 points, while Evansville is in second with 342 points.
Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt won her second race of the weekend in the 200-yard freestyle. Axt recorded a time of 1:52.79, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Christina Schmidgall of Evansville, who finished with a time of 1:54.82. Commodore freshman Jennifer Molchan finished the race in third, posting a time of 1:55.76. Freshman Alex Jennings finished the race in sixth with a time of 1:58.22.
Axt broke her own school record that she set earlier in the year in the 100-yard butterfly. The freshman finished the race in second with a time of 56.42, improving on her earlier time of 56.76.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the all-freshman team of Molchan, Rachel Dyer, Jennings and Axt finished in second, recording a time of 7:54.11.
The Hilltopper Invitational concludes tomorrow.
