Aug. 29, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team had the third-highest women’s swimming team GPA in Division I, according to statistics compiled by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. For the spring 2007 semester, the Commodores had a 3.563 team grade point average.

“I think this honor is very exciting but it really sets the bar high for the girls coming in over the next couple of years,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “It shows how well the girls balance both academics and athletics. It’s a real good starting point and hopefully we can build from that.”

The University of South Carolina led the list with a 3.606 cumulative team GPA for the spring 2007 semester. Iona College was second at 3.580. Butler and Virginia Tech rounded out the top five.

The Commodores open up their 2007-08 season on Oct. 13 at Southern Illinois.
