TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Vanderbilt swimming and diving team lost a pair of dual meets on Friday, falling to Alabama 240-49 and LSU 245-48.
Freshman Leigh-Ann Axt continued her outstanding freshman campaign, winning her sixth individual race of the season and the first against a Southeastern Conference squad. Axt won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.47, almost a second ahead of the runner-up Vanessa Duenas of LSU. The win was also the first for a Commodore swimmer against SEC competition since the program was restarted last year. The time of 2:03.47 was Axt’s fastest time of the year in the 200-yard butterfly. Axt also posted a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a time of 56.76.
The Commodores return to action next Saturday for a dual meet in Huntington, W.Va., against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
