NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis dropped its eighth straight, falling to Florida 4-0 at home on Sunday.
The Dores began the match with a 6-3 win from freshman Dylan Charlap and fifth year Henry Ruger at No. 3 doubles. Florida evened the doubles score at the No. 2 position. With the early advantage on the line, No. 37-ranked junior Nathan Cox and senior Michael Ross battled back at No. 1 doubles against No. 18 Henry Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn. The pair turned a 5-2 deficit into a 5-5 tie, eventually going to a tiebreaker at 6-6. Cox and Ross could not overcome their Gator counterparts, however, as Florida grabbed the match lead with a 7-6 (4) result.
The Gators generated leads at all available positions to start singles play. They pushed the lead to 3-0 after claiming victories at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Despite the early deficits, Cox, sophomore Danil Panarin, and freshman Pablo Martinez Gomez all built leads in the second set. Florida, though, clamped down with the contest in the balance. No. 113 Jefferson fended off Martinez Gomez, taking a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles to clinch the match.
