MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team notched three singles victories to close out the final day of the Coach Bouldin Classic hosted by Middle Tennessee.
Vandy opened competition on Friday against Tennessee opponents. The Dores split doubles against the Volunteers, with the pairing of freshman Donghyun Hwang and sophomore Callum Markowitz defeating Alejandro Moreno and Jan Kobierski 6-4. Tennessee, though, controlled the momentum in singles, sweeping the black and gold across four matches. Saturday saw Vandy matched up against opponents from Indiana. The Hoosiers took both doubles matches to begin the day ahead of split singles results. Markowitz used a three-set comeback effort to take down Deacon Thomas 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 while senior Tighe Brunetti picked up his first win of the season against Aidan Atwood 6-3, 6-0.
The Dores closed out the event against the Blue Raiders on Sunday. After dropping the doubles matches, Vandy bounced back in singles play. Markowitz added another win on the weekend, moving past Freddy Murray 6-4, 7-5. Both Hwang and freshman Cayden Wang produced their first collegiate singles victories: Hwang hung on versus Eric Crive 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and Wang ousted Rich Lalance 6-3, 6-3.
