LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Arizona State shot 51.8 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from three to take an 82-67 win over Vanderbilt at the Vegas Showdown on Friday night.
Evan Taylor scored a season-best 25 points, one off his career high, to lead the Commodores. Tyrin Lawrence added 15 points and Ven-Allen Lubin 11 to give the Dores three in double digits. Vanderbilt (3-3) shot just 37.5 percent from the floor and 5-of-29 from three on the night.
Arizona State (3-2) had four players in double figures, led by a career-high 19 points from Alonzo Gaffney. Gaffney, was 5-of-7 from three on the night after entering the game just 1-of-17 on the season. Jose Perez added 15, Jamiya Neal 14 and Frankie Collins 12 to lead the offensive outburst for the Sun Devils.
A 10-0 Arizona State run down the stretch of the first half helped the Sun Devils turn a four-point margin into a 15-point halftime lead. The Dores responded with a quick run out of the break to trim the deficit to 46-38 with 17:05 to play but would get no closer as Arizona State answered with an 8-0 run to build its lead to 16.
Vanderbilt returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the ACC/SEC Challenge as the Dores host Boston College in Memorial Gymnasium.
