MELBOURNE, Florida — Vanderbilt finished the Moon Golf Invitational on Sunday with a 1-under, 287. At 9-under-par over 54 holes, the Commodores finished tied for seventh place.
LSU won the tournament with a 30-under team score.
“I thought our young ladies fought hard today but unfortunately we just didn’t have enough in the tank to make a big move up the leaderboard,” Vandy head coach Greg Allen said.
Celina Sattelkau led the Commodores on the final 18 as she carded a 2-under-par round that landed her tied for 27th place individually. Tess Davenport—also tying for 27th individually with a 2-under performance on the week—shot an even par Tuesday.
Natasha Kiel finished with an even round on the final 18. Virginie Ding was 1-over-par on the day and Tille Claggett was 3-over.
“Honestly, we made too many mistakes this week,” Allen said. “I’m encouraged though because I believe this team has what it takes to be a really good team. They’re extremely talented, they love to compete and fight hard for one another.”
Vanderbilt has two regular season tournaments remaining—the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Clemson Invitational—in the spring season.
The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate tees off Monday on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Commodores have experience at the competition as last season Sattelkau mounted a top-three individual performance, finishing 1-under-par over 54 holes.
Vanderbilt finished tied for eighth at the event in 2022.
“It’s a quick turnaround as we head to the Darius on Saturday to face the toughest field we will see all regular season on a challenging golf course,” Allen said. “I’m excited and expect our young ladies to be up for the opportunity.”
