Stewart, Schwab lead VU at Querencia Cabo Collegiate

First Round Results

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Senior Hunter Stewart and sophomore Matthias Schwab each carded a one-under par, 70, in the first round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate to lead the ninth-ranked Commodores Sunday in Los Cabos, Mexico. As a team, Vanderbilt is in a tie for eighth with a total of 287.

The Commodores counted Stewart and Schwab’s 70, freshman Teho Humphrey’s 73, and senior Ben Fogler’s 74 in a field that features nine teams ranked in the nation’s top 25.

“I am proud of how the guys hung in there and stuck to their game plan,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “If we continue to do that and focus on the right things, then we will have an opportunity to be successful.”

Stewart and Schwab trail individual leader Rige Fernandes of South Florida by six shots heading into the second round Monday. Top-ranked Florida State leads all teams after firing a first-round 275.

“Hunter and Matthias were both really solid on a day where the wind didn’t blow as much as we are accustomed to here,” said Limbaugh. “Tomorrow is another opportunity for us to take the right steps as a team and we will embrace that.”

The second of three rounds continues on Monday.
