BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Wednesday, the SEC league office announced that Vanderbilt men’s golfer Jon Ed Steed earned his second-straight SEC Freshman of the Week honor after his third-place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Steed earned his second-consecutive top-five placement this weekend, as the Enterprise, Alabama, native carded 6-under 207 at the Mason Rudolph Championship to finish tied for third. The first-year Vanderbilt golfer shared SEC Freshman of the Week honors with Auburn’s Jack Gilbert, who tied with Steed for third at the Mason Rudolph, and Missouri’s Esteban Cruz. Overall, it is Steed’s third SEC Freshman of the Week honor this season.
The freshman continued his recent hot streak, as Steed carded 2-under 69 in all three rounds of the Mason Rudolph Championship. He has now carded under par in six-straight rounds. The freshman’s 206 (-6) marks the lowest 54-hole total of his short collegiate career. Steed’s 14 total birdies were tied for the most in the tournament.
It’s been a strong debut season for Steed. He ranks third on the Vanderbilt men’s golf team with a 71.05 stroke average, while he has collected two top-10 finishes. The freshman has finished under par in a total of 14 rounds, which is second-most on the team.
